Data spaces

Nowadays, effective collaboration with other organisations as good as always requires data sharing: within supply chains, across sectors, or even with organisations in other countries. Data spaces can help to achieve this in a secure and responsible manner. Within a data space, each participating organisation retains control over who has access and how others use these data. The concept is based on agreements, standards and protocols that enable cross-border, cross-sector and federated collaboration. The OOTS platform (see page 33), for which RINIS developed the basic architecture, is regarded as the first European data space.

A data space is not a product or a service, but a way of thinking about how public sector organisations can participate in a digital ecosystem in a secure and effective manner. RINIS applies this way of thinking across all its products and services.

Architecture

RINIS is a member of IDSA, the International Data Spaces Association, and applies the data space principles across all its services and products. The principles of data spaces form the basis of the RINIS infrastructure: data remain at the source but are made accessible through agreements, standards and protocols.

Technology

Technical building blocks of data spaces, such as encryption, strong authentication and logging, are structurally embedded within the RINIS environment. As a result, RINIS solutions meet the highest standards in terms of privacy and security, and are ready for future European developments.
