RINIS Quantum Safe
Quantum-secure data transmission
Public authorities manage data that are crucial to policy-making, public services and national security. If this information is left unprotected due to the advent of quantum computers, this is certain to give rise to societal problems as well as direct risks to the organisation itself.
RINIS Quantum Safe makes these risks manageable: it is a comprehensive solution for quantum-secure data transmission via fibre-optic cables. It combines innovative Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology and reliable fibre-optic connections and quantum infrastructure.
At the heart of RINIS Quantum Safe is QKD: a technology that immediately detects any attempt at eavesdropping. RINIS Quantum Safe can be expanded to include Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). This is a new generation of mathematical algorithms that is capable of handling the computing power of future quantum computers. Combined, QKD and PQC provide a security framework in which physical certainty and mathematical robustness mutually boost and enhance each other: QKD securely delivers the key, whilst PQC ensures that the lock is uncrackable.
The solution complies with BIO, ISO 27001 and European directives.
Architecture
RINIS Quantum Safe’s architecture consists of three main components.
QKD equipment
A QKD node is installed at your organisation and at the counterparty’s premises. These nodes are fitted with optical transmitters and receivers for photons, and the electronics required to generate, exchange and validate keys.
Fibre-optic infrastructure
Your organisation is given access to a dedicated dark fibre connection between the QKD nodes. This connection is physically separated from the public internet and is monitored 24/7 for signal quality and availability.
IT infrastructure and administration layer
RINIS supplies and administers the servers, firewalls, switches and the virtual infrastructure that connect the QKD nodes to your encryption systems.
Technology
Courtesy of advanced, highly secure QKD protocols and other standards, RINIS Quantum Safe is impervious to external as well as internal attacks. The generated keys automatically integrate with existing encryption systems such as IPsec and TLS, enabling organisations to implement quantum-safe security without the need for any modifications. The QKD channels run via private fibre-optic connections administered by RINIS, which are physically separated from the internet and continuously monitored.
Real-time monitoring and reports provide insight into performance and security. RINIS Quantum Safe seamlessly integrates with RINIS.net and TESTA, enabling existing data flows to be secured to quantum-safe standards.
